0.7.89: Futures Market and compounding SPEED increases!
Today marks the last major update during the Gamedev.js Jam 2023 before tomorrow morning's deadline!
Since yesterday I've been busy working on adding functionality for the Futures Market, which allows for more interesting gameplay! In order to buy futures in the market, players first need to allocate McGuffins into reserves, which are set aside to buy futures when the price/yield is high.
Every 10 seconds the reserve percentage is pulled from the current pool of available McGuffins, and the price of futures updates every 20 seconds. The yield is random but can increase as high as 200%, and as a visual cue the yield changes color to green whenever it rises above 100%, indicating a good time to earn a profit. The futures market is not without risk, however, as reserves lose 1-5% of their value every 100 seconds to entropy, and there's no guarantee you'll be able to turn a profit in that time frame.
Speaking of time (you know, the theme of the game jam), SPEEDups are now compounding, adding 33% boosts to the game speed every level. Time challenges can now be played even faster, but be careful if you're playing the Futures Market, as it can be so much tougher to strike while the market is hot!
